Sharon Chan

Co-founder and Co-director

Sharon Chan is a research artist whose practice spans transdisciplinary performance, curatorial work and artistic research. She is currently Producer and Company Manager of Théâtre de la Feuille, a physical theatre company based in Hong Kong. Previously, she served as General Manager of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble from 2012 to 2019, and as Creative Producer for Special Projects from 2019 to 2020.

Alongside her work in arts management, Chan maintains an active performance practice integrating physical theatre, voice, movement and live music, with a particular focus on the theremin. In recent years, she has appeared at Kunstraum Walcheturm (2025) and Festival Rümlingen (2024), and in productions including Venture into the Unknown: Eroica Reimagined (The Orchestra Academy, 2022), #1314 (Théâtre de la Feuille, 2021), and Tino Sehgal’s These Associations (Tai Kwun Contemporary, 2021).

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chan graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Translation. She obtained a Master of Philosophy in Musicology from the University of Hong Kong in 2011, writing her thesis on the dramaturgical aspects of opera production and performance. In 2021, she completed the physical theatre training programme Physical Acting Lab, designed and taught by Ata Wong, accredited teacher of Jacques Lecoq pedagogy and Founder and Artistic Director of Théâtre de la Feuille.

Chan has been devoted to the theremin as a performance instrument since 2022, studying under internationally renowned thereminist Carolina Eyck. Her engagement with the theremin extends beyond musical execution to its performative, spatial and corporeal dimensions, informing her broader research into sound, movement and embodied perception.

Chan co-founded PROJECT21st with Charles Kwong in 2019, where she serves as co-director, masterminding multiple translocal and transdisciplinary artistic initiatives over the years.
