ABOUT US

PROJECT21st 廿一檔 is a platform for artistic creation, research and collaboration shaped by the urgencies of our time. We bring together artists, thinkers and audiences to explore how music and performance can open new ways of sensing and listening in the world. Through our projects, we nurture encounters between disciplines, cultures and perspectives that reimagine what art can do in the 21st century.

At our core is a belief that music, and the embodied, live, human experience of it, can be a catalyst for connection, inquiry and transformation. We pursue this through:

  • Commissioning and presenting new work that pushes the boundaries of genre and medium;

  • Fostering international networks of artists, thinkers and makers who engage across disciplines and geographies;

  • Research-led practices that explore how performance responds to contemporary conditions, from ecological shifts and social transformation to human relationships and perception;

  • Exchange and collaboration that bring together diverse voices and traditions, while rethinking what music and performance can mean today.

We work not simply as a presenter but as a laboratory: a platform for artists to develop, experiment and question. Through extended collaborations, collaborative creation processes and new commissions, PROJECT21st offers space and support for ideas to grow, for risks to be taken, and for unexpected connections to emerge.

Founded and led by Artistic Director Charles Kwong and Executive Director Sharon Chan, the organisation is anchored in Hong Kong yet carries a global vision. We are committed to creating platforms that reflect the fluidity of today’s cultural landscape, crossing boundaries and opening space for transdisciplinary and evolving practices.
